Hello HBT!
Over the holidays I started to acquire the gear to finally switch to kegging. Amongst other stuff I got a pretty standard regulator with dual gauge, it looks exactly like this.
When I tried to connect it to a sodastream bottle with an adapter I noticed a quite obvious leak between the regulator and the connector. On a quick glance I found out that the washers are extremely hard, I can't bend or compress them even using my pliers. Are they supposed to be that hard?

Yes, the are very hard, some type of fiber. Your photo does not show the gauge inlet. The standard tank fittings are flat with groves for v high pressures.
