I made a MLT out of a cooler and am about to attempt my first all grain. I've cleaned the cooler and have heard "pre-warming" the cooler is the way to go. Is it necessary/recommended to use sanitizer before hand as well? Thanks all!

No need to sani. You want to pre heat the cooler. I just clean mine out after wards with hot water and a dish rag.

The contents of the MLT will end up getting boiled for 60 minutes or more, so you should not need to sanitize because any of those bugs will get killed in the boil.

Nevertheless, it is good practice to keep all your equipment clean, before and after use. You should be fine just washing it out like you would any other piece of equipment, but with a MLT you want to make sure you are not starting with bits of old malted grain or scum from the mash.

A day before or the morning of brew day I always soak and clean every piece of equipment I am using with oxyclean. As the other mentions, nothing but the equipment that touches the wort post boil needs to be sanitized. I like to have my fermenter sitting half full of sanitizer before I even begin brewing though so I don't forget to sanitize it after i've been slaving over a hot pot for hours.
