Good afternoon all,

So I just ordered a pound each of Citra Cascade Chinook Simcoe Galaxy hops and I'm very excited about it. Until now, I haven't thought about brewing an IPA with all these hops but now that I see them together, my mouth is salivating at the thought of this 4CS IPA.

Question is: Would this be over kill and you'd loose sight of these hops or would is this combo produce just an absolutely fantastic taste?

Cheers!

As a general rule if you don't have a plan for what an ingredient is going to add to a beer it is better to leave it out. Usually 'kitchen sink' beers end up tasting 'muddled'. On the other hand if you formulate your recipe taking into account each ingredient and what it brings to the overall beer then you will have a much better result. Choosing each hop and its amount based on it's attributes is just like what a chef does when they make a recipe. The same process is applicable and advisable in brewing.

As a disclaimer I will say that I learned this lesson the hard way

Chinook 1 oz 60
Cascade 1 oz 30
Simcoe 1 oz10
Citra 1 oz10
Galaxy flameout

Dry hop 1oz Citra 1oz Galaxy

I cannot see it being bad.

This is a great starting point.! I'm sure I will make an Imperial IPA when I try this, so I would increase the amounts of each but I like where this is going. Would it be overkill to do:
Chinook 2 oz 60
Cascade 2 oz 30
Simcoe 2 oz 10
Citra 2 oz 10
Galaxy 3 oz Flameout - 30 minutes
Citra 3 oz Flameout - 30 minutes
Galaxy 2 oz Dry Hop - 4 days
Citra 2 oz Dry Hop - 4 days
Simcoe 2 oz Dry Hop - 4 days

You would be well over 100 IBU...

I love Chinook for bittering but 2 oz would be overkill for me... Everybody's tastes are different tho...

I have to agree with jimbo. 2 oz for bittering is too much for me but if you like super bitter that's the way to do it.

How much malt and grains are you using? Is this extract or all grain?

You've got a LOT of hops in there. Especially at the flameout. I'm not sure how that would turn out.

What do you mean by 30 minute flameout? Does that mean you'll let the hops sit in the hot water for 30 minutes and not use a wort chiller?

I'll chill out with the chinook, go with 1 oz.

I'd shoot for a 1.080-1.085 OG (14 lb 2 row, 1 lb red wheat, 1 lb corn sugar, and maybe .5-1lb of caramel 40)

Let hops sit for 30 minutes around 190 degrees or so then chill.

I want this thing bursting with hop flavor.
