Chugger pumps

When your getting down to the last of your wort left in the kettle can you run your pump untill there is nothing left? Or do you have to leave some of the wort behind to avoid running the pump dry for a couple of seconds?

i always leave some behind to protect my pump.

I turn the pump off as soon as it starts to cavitate. You can tell by the sound.

Get it all! A few seconds won't hurt it.

Go until you start hearing it starting to suck air from the kettle. Once it does that, you can turn it off since there will still be some wort in the lines going to the pump.
