very impressive build.
I have read your thread, read the info on the contest, looked at the mfr website and I still dont understand where this thing goes, what it does, what it replaces!
looks like a female sex toy to me. Frustrated trying to understand this thing. I cant find any pics on this RIMS Hardware Kit mounted. Goes in MLT or HLT?
feeling uninformed to say the least!

Are you talking about the RIMS tube? I'll do my best to answer it as I have the same setup and TNugent can chime in.

Here is a photo of mine mounted on my stand but it isn't hooked up in the photo.

What you would have is on the end of the right side would be a power cord that is connected to a heating element inside the tube. On the far left end I would have a temperature probe that takes a reading as liquid moves through the tube.

You can also see the two spots where liquid enters from one side and then exits from the other. You'd have hoses that are connected to these and also connected to a pump. When you are recirculating the pump would be moving liquid through the device. The temperature probe tells your controling device whether to turn on or off the heating element to make sure that your temperature stays exactly where you want it to be.

Thanks for answering. Does the rims tube take the place of a coil of SS or copper tube to transfer the heat from the HLT? So an HLT would still be needed to store water? This tube would get very hot so you have it hanging from your brew stand. What are any advantages?

You are correct, it would take the place of the coil inside the HLT which would be called a HERMS system. There are pros and cons to each method. I'd take a look at the following

or just search for the forums here for the words RIMS and HERMS to find more threads about it.

All those photos make me feel like a kid in a candy store! Congrats on getting back to brewing...looks like you'll be busy, but having fun, tinkering with all those goodies!

damn, that's nice.

my sister lives over by Guardian Angles.

I spent the first 8 years (9 including kendergarten) of my school career at Guardian Angels. My family has been a member of the church for a long time.

Work has been busy and I've neglected my thread, thanks to those who have stepped up. Later today hopefully when I have some time I promise to add some more info as requested.
