What's shakin'?

My name is Blake, and I'm just getting started. I drink mostly wheats and seasonals, but I've got enough Guinness in my blood to run a pub for a night...should I get stabbed over a funnel. What a strange things to say.

Moving right along...

I've got the Cooper's Home Kit, and I'm preparing to bottle my first batch this weekend. It will be 10 days in Primary, and the gravity is steady.

I'm lookinig forward to tasting it for the first time, but I'm more anxious to learn how to make my own stuff from scratch.

Commercial stuff I like to drink, and want to make:

Blue Moon
Guinness
Sam Adams - Boston, Winter, Summer
Goose Island 312 (most cannot get it outside of Chicago - excellent wheat)
Michelob Shock Top (orange & not a regular drink for me, but still decent)

I am interested in making several different brews similar to the above line-up.

If anyone can direct me to resources for me to learn and grow big with words, I would appreciate it.

I'm excited to be here, and have dreams of one day having my own little brewery on site - open the garage and BAM! Look at those tanks!

Welcome fellow-Chicagoan! As for resources, look here under "beginners" forum and you'll see some stickys that will be helpful. Also, How to Brew - By John Palmer is a good resource. If you are anywhere near a homebrew shop called Bev Art (101st and Western), they offer classes.

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm interested in learning more, but I don't really have time for the classes unless they're a Saturday morning gig. There's a place around the corner from my apartment called 'Brew N' Grow' and I've always been curious about it. I think it's about time I went in and checked it out.

I'm going to read the link/book you posted. Hopefully I'll come back a little smarter, yet still as motivated.

Thanks!

I also live down the street from Brew & Grow. It's an alright place, make sure to stop by on a Saturday and say hi to their main brewer. He's pretty helpful. Don't be afraid to order online, though, for a cheaper selection.

Blake, check your PMs for another option.

Kyleobie -

I love your Chicago-themed beer names!

Secondary: Haymarket Riot IPA (American IPA)
Conditioning: Rokyo's Wit (Belgian Wit)
Drinking: Red Line Ale (American Amber)

These are great!

Thanks! I've got a few more up my sleeve. :D
