So i would like to do an imperial stout, i want to add real cherries, no extract, has anyone done this? I want to taste the cherries, but i dont want it overpowering either

You could also mash up cherries, about 5-7lbs, and add them to the wort for 20 minutes AT THE END of your boil.Depending on the type of cheery though, you may need to adjust the ph with gypsum or whatever.
