I personally liked regular oak theory better but I thought it was very cool how different the two were. Amazing how different a beer can get when the bugs have different food to snack on.

Agreed. Oak Theory had the perfect amount of funk that I think the juiciness of the hops cut through a little bit. Both beers were excellent. I am excited to try the new blends of each.

I will gladly take the reduced trade value associated with a bad dontdrinkbeer review if it means less busy releases for a few months. Happy to just keep drinking these gems and let DDB readers can think oak theory is too sour.

How often do magnums go on sale? Looking for one for my 30th birthday, so if/when the time is right I can put up an ISO or something for those.

Let's be clear, though: dontdrinkbeer definitely prefers his sours to not be right around a 3 PH. Tends to give similar thoughts on anything noticeably below the high 3.Xs.

I find the sleeping bag method much better to what the author of the article did. At least they are the very first in line and could grab bottles and still be at an trailhead out by aspen, redstone, eagle, etc for a day of hiking or mountain bike riding by noon. Waking up at 4:45 to spend all morning driving to then have to still wait for 30 or 40 people in front of you to get bottles is crazy.

Really? you would rather everyone start showing up at 2AM? Please no.

sorry if i wasn't clear. what i am saying is that i want to minimize the pain of spending time at a beer release. and sleeping there to be first in line (and thus first to be able to leave) sounds better to me than waking up at 4:45 and still having to deal with a 40 person line.

...and I would guesstimate there were about 10-12 oak theory magnums... the rest were East Bank from the February blend...

OK, so what exactly are Oak Blend, East Bank, and The Cut? I know the Saison obviously, and then I was under the impression that Fruit Stand is fruited versions of barrels of Saison, but not sure what these other beers are.

No, he is just saying that in addition to having the sour base vs. the saison base, it also has twice the amount of fruit.

I would also add that in talking to Troy he sees it like this

Saison - 5%

East Bank - 6% similar features to the saison but a little higher in alcohol

he is also wanting to get a 4% or so table beer going soon, so the table beer, saison, east bank are all kind of a similar family of beers.

Ah, gotcha. That was my understanding too, but I wasn't sure if you heard something differently at the most recent release. I definitely just misunderstood what you meant.

I reviewed the regular Casey oak theory because I didn't place high enough on my tests to get into Advanced Oak theory. I'll try harder next time.

No it's not. That review is ... funny but, pretty ridiculous... freaking well balanced IMO, if you want ridiculously sour go drink some Cascade or Upland stuff

nanobrew and I will be going on a roadtrip next month, and we’ll be traveling through Glenwood Springs on May 7th or 8th. I realize this is several days after a release (can’t bump up our schedule unfortunately), but I noticed this text on their site:

We distribute to Cooper Wine and Spirits in Glenwood Springs, Sopris Liquors in Carbondale, Four Dogs Wine and Spirits in Basalt, Aspen Wine and Spirits in Aspen, Base Camp Wine and Spirits in Frisco and West Vail Liquors in Vail.

Is there a chance in hell of there being bottles available at any of those locations several days after a release, or is it kind of like people asking where they can find fresh bottles of Nelson in Los Angeles?

Last time I was in Four Dogs (March release), they had saisons and east banks from last year.

A few days after a release is actually your best shot at those places. Troy typically sets some aside for those local shops

Not sure I agree with you on Beat, but Pulling Nails bore a hole in my stomach.

Troy delivered Oak Theory to Denver today. Mile High is sold out already, and I'm sure Small Batch is as well. Grapevine might be worth a shot.

Troy even makes it as far as Fort Collins as well.
My parents live literally a stones throw away from West Vail Liquors (by the Vail Ale House). I'll holla at them and see.
They normally scoop a few bottles for me.

I agree mine have not been that sour and that's what I enjoyed, not the typical away that punches you in the face with sour... cough cough Im looking at you Upland...
