I use vodka in case a little bit gets sucked back into the fermenting beverage, but I have also heard people using diluted star-san solution and water...
 
People have mixed opinions about this. Some swear by vodka whereas others simply use water. Bottom line = As long as your airlock has one of the two in it you should be okay. Just don't fill it up with gasoline, windex, or motor oil.
 
PatMac, you forgot rubbing alcohol. ;)

I use StarSan in mine. It's always mixed when I need to fill an airlock and if it goes in the beer no big deal. Plain water can get a little gunky but Star San stays good for a long time.

I figured some good ol motor oil would give my beer kind of rustic flavor.....damn guys that ideas out the window:cross:
