I used 1.7% of Carafa III for coloring in an IPA brewed over the weekend. Will this contribute any weird roasting flavor? Think it may not have been a good idea. What you all think?

There are two sorts of carafa, one is known as "dehusked" or "debittered" and should not impart much flavor at all. The other is more like a chocolate malt and will add a small amount of flavor at that level. Call it a "red" IPA and enjoy!

I am in the same boat. I used about 1.3% carafa ii in a double IPA I brewed this weekend. I intended to just add it to the end of the mash for color, but I accidentally milled it with the rest of the grain. Carafa is supposed to be pretty gentle in the roasty/chocolatey flavors, especially if you buy the dehusked stuff as philosofool stated above.

Thanks guys! Hope it still works. Same issue. Milled it and didn't even think about it till yeast was pitched! Well hopefully the brewing gods will be on my side with this one.

It was Carafa III 525 L. Thinking that it was dehusked.
