i know this is a long shot, but i am in the processof making a deal with a guy. i am trading hime cornie kegs for 3 1/2 barrel kegs he has. the picture to me for some reason makes me think they are aluminum. he doesnt know if they are, and its kind of a long drive to dinf out for myself. any thoughts? things i can tell the guy to do to check them?

weight and strength are the easiets ways to tell. Most SS 1/2 bbl kegs weigh in at 30 pounds dry.

Or have the seller whack it with a hammer. If it leaves a small dent it's SS. Big dent is aluminum.

Then you can force a discount since one is dented.

you could always ask him to see if a magnet will stick to it. different grades of SS will not be as sticky for a magnet, but aluminum will definitely not hold a magnet.

there should be a manufacturer's stamp somewhere on the keg. being german sliders i'd look for the words inox, rostfrei, fleckenfrei for stainless.

the guy just told me a magnet sticks to them. which to me says they arent a very good grade of stainless. do i even want these?

It sounds like they are made with 304 Stainless like all the other SS kegs are, not a problem.

cool. i've never tried a magnet on a keg before so i wasnt sure if they used different stiff on older ones.

They aren't half barrel kegs if they are 40L as the posting indicates.

oh wow, i didnt even do the math, i saw them just assumed they were 1/2 bbl. i dont even think i want them any more...or i could make bar stools out of them
