About 30 on line right now
This is all going to go great. Don't see any trouble on the horizon for anyone.
You sittin' this one out bud?![]()
I think these beer releases have gotten to a point where a lot of "old money" if you will, are deciding to sit out. They're just not worth it anymore. To ensure not getting shut out, you have to line up 3-4 hours in advance. In fact, its been that way for about 2 years now IMO.
Would agree with that. Granted there were some crazy releases before hand (The 2011 Castleton release for example), 2013 really does seem like a bit of a tipping point. Lines at Hill got much much much longer, Alchemist had to impose limits from 6 to 2 to 1 case pp in a matter of weeks, etc etc.
I apologize... by "old money" I mean old holdovers from the "other" site... before the great purge. Real "Old Money" doesn't NEED to wait in lines.
Can't wait to watch this thread evolve over the next 24 hours.

if there are 300 people out in the middle of bumfuck Williamsport on Saturday morning, I'll be surprised. It could happen...but I'd be impressed.
If 400 people line up on Saturday for this release, I am done with beer.

I like and hate this post. You know how people talk about the price of beer and "when is the craft beer bubble gonna burst?" Yeah... the definitive answer is NOT ANY TIME SOON.
When there are 50+ people already on line at Bullfrog looking to pay $100 just so they have an opportunity to spend another $200+ for the 5 bottles.
If I ran Bullfrog, I'd have priced these bottles at $60-$70 per bottle. We should be thanking our lucky stars they're only $200+ for the set.

I just read bullfrog's facebook post and im dumbfounded.lol.
I just read bullfrog's facebook post and im dumbfounded.
Prior to today, they had 400 members and are only selling 100 allotments today. So, at best 1/4 of the current members will get bottles today. Add to that, they are allowing new memberships today which allows you to also buy an allotment today.
I heard there are 70 people in line as of 30 mins ago and many are not already members. So that cuts down even further on what gets sold to existing members. Ouch. Then bullfrog says "dont worry" you will have another "chance" to buy bottles tomorrow? Yikes...
Add to that, i think ive seen the better part of 50 pretrades set up, i think its pretty safe to say people are not getting what they think they will tomorrow...I guess im guilty of not realizing how crazy this has become.
I just think people somehow missed the fact that these trade about as high as anything that's been publicly released first come first serve in the past few years, and they're releasing (initial limits) SIX BOTTLES WORTH per person.
If you pay attention to basic economics of beer, there was no reason to not go today, buy a new pub club membership, and get your bottles. The idea behind the pub club presale was great, but to "be fair" they should have limited to existing members as of the announcement. (Not that I think there's any reason they should have chosen to "be fair," nor do I give them flack for the decision. They can run a beer release any damn way they want.).
Tomorrow is going to be a legitimate disaster, and I am looking forward to watching the world burn.
isn't this exactly what we said was going to happen at the BA Mexican Cake release and that wound up being fine?

I'm on the fence about going, but isn't this exactly what we said was going to happen at the BA Mexican Cake release and that wound up being fine?
Shrug. None of the BA Cakes, in their wildest days, traded like the Grrzes.
But I have no horse in this race, I'll be at Allagash.
AB Mexican Cake?
Yeah but that release (original BA cakes) had very little hype because until those beers came out Westbrook had no cachet for barrel-aged beers. And yeah they trade high now but we're moving really normally at first. No one was trying to pre-trade Cake sets for CCK.
I guess my point was that because of the hype from the first BA cake release, people went nuts prior to the second.
