Hey guys first post, second brew. So I woke up this morning the the bucket lid had blown off a Russian Imperial Stout I brewed yesterday. I'm currently sanitizing the hose to use as a blow-off hose. I stuck the lid on right away (mainly because I didn't know what else to do. The porter I brewed yesterday is doing fine.
Y
Two questions: is the stout screwed because I stuck the lid on without re-sanitizing it?
2: how long should I wait to transfer it to a glass carboy?

Putting the lid back on right away is a gamble, but more then likely you'll be fine. (relax and have a home brew) As for racking to a secondary you should wait until you reach your final gravity before doing that.

Does this look familiar? LOL:

And btw you should most likely be fine. Just keep an eye on it and make sure your airlock and blow-off are working properly.

Holly hell. That would suck to clean up. That's why I use a blow off tube and a 6 or 6.5 gallon carboy. The extra head space can come in handy. :)

You're probably fine because the yeasties obviously were already off to a strong start and will probably out compete any minor contamination at this point.

I had a lid blow off once, and launched a lot of krausen all over the ceiling! Almost had to repaint.

The lid was on the ground, but with beer side facing up. Had it been beer-side down I would've washed it right away! Thanks guys! I will be keeping an eye on it much closer.

I had this happen once with our 6.5G ale pale. My wife had her Summer Shandy brewing with 15g re-hydrated cooper's ale yeast (new large packet from midwest,NB). The next day,we were sittin at the comp watchin videos...then a sudden LOUD pop! Her ale pale was sittin on the fermenter stand to the right of the comp hutch, nearly in front of her! We were both half way to another sip when it happened. And I was using a blow off as well. No clogs either. Blew the lid off 3/4's of the way around the bucket. Not to much mess though, just a sudden build up of co2 I guess.
But I was picky & cleaned it off real quick with som starsan & paper towel.
