Err... Active is maybe a relative term.

I'm afraid I'm not part of a big expat brewing group here, though I probably should be part of several by now. I guess I've never gotten out among expat brewers enough to make those connections.

As for distilling, I know of some expats building a commercial distillery, but not much about home distillers. Taobao did start targeting ads for hobby stills at me fairly recently, but I don't know much about them - the reviews seem to be largely bunk that was sent to the purchasers by customer service in return for a nominal hongbao; nonsense like, "I put in a kilogram of rice and came out with a liter and a half of 57.3% wine!" which doesn't make sense even if the machine ferments the rice for you before distilling, since you'd need more like 10kg+ to get that much alcohol out of rice.
