Byo had an article last week under the WIZARD, that stated that almost any dark beer has more anti-oxidents than red wine. Hell Yes! Like I needed a reason to drink more dark beer lol.

HAHA!. And Homebrew beer is higher in protein and vitamin B complex, too. Yeah Beer! :mug:

Unfortunately, there's very little scientific proof that taking extra antioxidants helps much. Check it.

Don't piss on the parade

If I've learned one thing about nutrition, it's that "professionals" flip-flop what's good for you and what's going to kill you fairly often. I figure - eat what you like, but don't go crazy with anything.

I'm not pissing on the parade, I just see these miracle cures come and go, and I'm offering people information. Echinacea was a huge item for a long time...it was supposed to stave off illness and bolster your immune system. Until study after study found it to be benign. Same thing with the supposed memory-bolstering effects of ginkgo biloba.

I'm with you, though: eat what you like, but don't go crazy with anything.

The naturopathic doctors I've talked to have quite the difference in opinion from your news article.

I didn't write it, I just linked to it. Might turn out to be wrong. So might your doctors. Personally, I'm just going off the studies they quote until more evidence is presented.

While I like to abuse my system in a number of creative ways, I also like to think that monitoring my intake of even supposedly/allegedly healthy things is a good idea.

Simple stuff like whole grain, plenty of fruits and vegetables, protein based diet vs. heavy carbs, etc., so any new reason to think that my mass consumption of brew is 'healthy' is peace of mind....

But I remember when, in the seventies, 'they' said butter is bad, margarine is good-and now they are taking the transfats back out of foods.... so either antioxidants are good for you or not, I will probably only drink more beer...'cause it'll be YEARS before 'they' figure out the real deal. ;)

Chocolate is good for you now, as is coffee....and now beer!! I like the way this trend is going!! What will be next? I hope they can find evidence that eating large amounts of Bananas Foster will extend your life!!

Maybe Woody Allen got it right in Sleeper:

Dr. Melik: (listing items Miles had requested for breakfast) "... wheat germ, organic honey, and... Tiger's Milk."
Dr. Aragon: "Oh, yes. Those are the charmed substances that some years ago were thought to contain life-preserving properties."
Dr. Melik: "You mean there was no deep fat? No steak or cream pies or... hot fudge?"
Dr. Aragon: "Those were thought to be unhealthy... precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true."
Dr. Melik: "Incredible!"
