Brew Water Question

Ok, so I've been brewing for about a year and am really looking to deeper my understanding of brew water. I normally use my tap water, with ph levels around 7. I've been happy with how my AG batches have came out.

I'm looking for any resources or links to help me gain some new knowledge. Thanks!

Do you have a water report? That's the first place to start.

Definitely do what the gentlemen above me just said and also...check out the online version of Palmer's How to Brew, lot's of great insight in there about where to start when it comes to researching different ion constructs and properties of brewing water.

Also....this 35 minute video (again by John Palmer, the dude's and engineer and so is my dad so I sort of indirectly speak this guy's language) is INCREDIBLY in depth. Grab a home brew, kick back, and enjoy!

See if they will provide you with the secondary standards, those metrics are more important for brewing.

Yes, the most helpful are total alkalinity, chloride, sodium, and calcium. If you tell them you're a homebrewer, they will typically know what you're looking for.

They typically will not have secondary info... they don't really care about that. Only that the water is safe to drink.
The one good piece of info they give is that the water has chlorine added as a disinfectant, and not chloramine. Chlorine is easily removed with a charcoal filter.
Go ahead and ask for a secondary report... you never know.
