hi guys i have a few all grain brews under my belt and recently made an american wheat that I am not too pleased with. The recipe was the basic american wheat from Classic styles. I carefully sanitize but the finished product has a slightly musky taste-both kegs of it. the only difference between this and previous processes was that this time I uses a hop spider-could that flavor come from the paint strainer bag used? Other than that i did not particularly recall any process flaws-thanks

Many folks use the paint strained bags without reporting any odd tastes. Could be a different part of your process, might be psychological

Ha, I got a kick out of that.

I use paint strainer bags when I have them (maybe 25% of the time, so easy to forget) and haven't noticed any off flavors.

yeah brut isnt a good thing-----maybe something in the grain i got----or the yeast good thing is if ya get asked by the cops how much have you had to drink ya could just say "officer thats just the musk of my manly cologne"

looking back at the notes .....conversion was a PITA. maybe there was an issue with my PH adjustments

update- hate to say I dumped that batch-it sucked.

I did notice what I think is the problem, I have some bad smells in the fermenter (freezer) due to a blow off and some moldy smell-that wont clean no matter what-

If the fermentation is closed that shouldnt be a big deal- when cold crashing I think that I might have pulled some of this in through the condensing of the beer. Anyways havent had that problem again...

Again-when I went to clean the freezer it had the same smell that was in the beer-now that freezer is for lagering only......pressurized in cornies
