Hey guys,

Quick question; if I were to decide to go with a bottom draining MLT and use a foldable false bottom, are there any concerns about applying heat to the mash if you need to bring the temps up?

In other words, while you're mashing and doing your protein rests etc, do you just cap off the bottom drain and if so, is it ok to apply heat form your burner to bring you temps up if you need to?

Sorry for the silly beginner question. Thanks!

Rick

I think a HERMS or RIMS tube system is more appropriate for a bottom drained tun. I could see making up a custom U shaped burner using tips out of a multijet burner to keep flame off the drain tube, but you'd need to recirculate during heating anyway.

You know about this connection method right?

Thanks for responding. That's pretty much what I thought. I'm not really interested in putting together a RIMS or HERMS system at the moment. I just want to do simple infusion mashes and be able to turn the burner on under the MLT from time to time if my temps drop here and there.

I'm actually looking into picking up the camlock system you offer on your site. I did have a question though.

In your "Typical Application" pic, how does the street elbow connect to the female QD coupling?

Basically, I just want to buy everything in that picture all at once.
