is there anything I can buy at lowes or home dept to replace this? It broke BADLY . The threaded piece that goes into the side of the bucket snapped off of the actual spigot part. I had THREE of them and gave 2 away to a friend who brews. LUCKILY it broke during the cleaning getting ready to bottle phase and not during bottling.

There is a spigot in the camping section at walmart that some folks have used to make their bottling buckets with. I'm trying to find you a part number. I know I've seen it.

I cant find it, sorry, but IIRC it was black and looked like this.

You may need to buy a bigger piece of hose or if you use my design, take your bottling wand with you and see if it will fit.

Good luck.

Thanks revvy... yeah I bottle just like in your thread.. easy as pie.... May just take a run to the brew store tomorrow.. I am supposed to pick up 4 more of the big glass carboys down there anyway... THREE BUCKS EACH!!!!

You can always siphon into the bottling wand, that's what I always did (I now push with c02 through the bottling wand which is super fast).

I figure the fewer plastic threaded things the better.

Whoa - wait a minute. Where in a Ohio can I get glass carboys for $3?

WUSS...

I just bottled 2, 2.6 gallon batches and 5.5 gallons of apfelwein.

HEH, I should have invited you to drive up here, I actually have a couple extra bottling spigots.

Of course you'd want to try all my homebrews and wouldn't be able to drive back home. :D

If I tell you, then there goes my secret supply! Lol. Actually I found a guy who gets em from somewhere. They are the big acid carb oys with screw on caps and encased in styrofoam. I bought 12 last time for a total of 30 bucks. Sold 6 for 15 bucks to a friend and gave one to another friend. The guy called me and said he had 4 more and may get more later. Seems however the guy I sold the 6 to back doored me and got quite a few from him and never said anything to me about em.

I just got back from picking up the carboys... Guy there told me he thought me and the other guy were together on the deal.. Seems after I let the other guy have 6 of them for what I payed.... he went back without me and bought FOURTEEN MORE!!! I picked up 4 today and the seller promised me that anymore come in and I will be the one called...

What a jack move.. is (was) this guy a friend?

While it is a great deal, that's just wrong to leapfrog you. There is no way anybody needs that many carboys unless he's selling them for a profit, which is an even bigger jack move since you resold yours to him for the same price you paid.

I live in SIDNEY....if the guy gets another shipment in ( no way can I use any or many more) I would be glad to share the bounty.

Thanks for the great offer. I'm in Cincy now but am originally from Dayton so very familiar w/ Sidney - starts around exit #90 I believe.
If you seriously get more and don't mind sharing, my brew buddies and I would almost definitely be willing to make the trip for those prices. We were just debating the other day whether to buy carboys or more buckets for the additional fermenters we need.

I will let you know

well for 4-5 of em it would be worth the trip I think...where in ohio are you anyway?

Yeah, I suppose you're right! If you bank up 4-6 of them let me know and I'll probably make the trip, we can do a bottle swap if you want as well! I'm in a small town called Atwater, I work in Akron.

I will let you guys know if I am able to get anymore.

I will make a post on here IF I can get anymore. He seems to think the supply will be continuous as they are some sort of acid container. Which means you will have to clean them VERY well but they do clean up EASY and I have used em with no noticable anything. They are the 6.5 gallon carboys with the threaded tops and they each have a screw on lid.

I'd think a couple of hot Oxi soaks (Oxi is a base I believe) would clean them well enough. Like I said it's much appreciated!

About a month ago, I was bottling my English Pale , transferred the wort over the bottling bucket which was sitting on the counter. As I was getting my bottles ready, from the corner of my eye I noticed something leaking from the spigot, wort was coming out of the sides. As I went to grab the buckete and slowly turn the spigot, it broke in half into my hand (i just touched it, didn't move it yet). Wort gushed out, I spun the bucket into the sink, had about a gallon or so on my lap, probably another on the floor and the rest down the sink. Broke my heart lol..It was soo young..
