Hi all,
I'm usually a cider guy, and am pretty experienced at that, but I decided to try some beers. Bottled NB's Smashing Pumpkin Ale (Extract) kit two days ago using fizz drops (I know, I know) and when I checked the bottles today, I have some stuff that may be an infection. I'm hoping it's just yeast. Pictures attached.
I'm a pretty hardcore nut when it comes to cleanliness and sanitation (heat, bleach, oxiclean, and starsan), and I always use new tubing for every transfer, so if this is an infection I'm looking squarely at the fizz drops.
Pooled at the bottom. Fluffy and easily suspended. Maybe the hint of ring at the neck. Popped one open and it doesn't taste off, but it's early.
I make a lot of sweeter ciders, so I'm used to pasteurizing my carbed bottles. If this IS an infection, can I just wait until the batch is carbed and pasteurize to halt it?
Any beer experts want to rescue this cider guy? Thanks!
