So today I headed out to the LHBS, recipe in hand all excited for a new brew. picked up all my supplies 4lbs, headed home.... opened the box. :smack: Didn't get it milled.

So.. searched thru several threads on what to do. Rolling Pin, Food Processor, Run over it with your car... So I tried the rolling pin, NO WAY was I gonna get thru 4lbs. and with no food processor and no way i was gonna run it over with the car. My darling wife suggested the Vita-Mix Blender 1HP i was more worried about ending up with flour but i think it turned out well. Brew Day tomorrow.

So how'd I do HBT?

Before my wife got me a kitchenaid mill I used to buy my grains crushed, but would still run them through my Ninja blender again just to get it where I wanted. It sounds like you've got the right of it :mug:

I got a Kitchenaid mill for Christmas from my wife :) How do you like it? I'm guessing I'll need to keep it on the biggest grind setting? I haven't used it yet but the crush on some of my grains has been a little courser than I like (i do BIAB). Especially some rye I got - looks like it needs a little more work.

I've only gotten to use it once but it definitely served its purpose (I also BIAB). I kept it on the biggest setting and got a great crush from it.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you're milling 11-15 pounds of grain, you may want to only do a few pounds at a time. I noticed my mixer was getting warm after a while, but it got the job done. It's definitely easier than messing with a blender.

Next up: spent grain flour :D
