So its been 3 days since I've added bluberrys and peaches to my cyser. The cyser itself was going for about 1 week before I added the fruit. I have a large mass of fruit at the top of the carboy and I'm curious if I should degass or just leave it alone. Or if there is anything else I should be doing.

My plan now is just to let it set for another week and a half before I re rack and strain out the juices

Or should i just add a bit of clean water to cover more of the fruit...

I think you want to stir the fruit cap into the mead. This for two reasons: a) the cap can trap the CO2 and the amount of CO2 produced by the yeast can be enough to create an explosion of fruit and liquid ... and glass. and b) even if the cap does not trap the CO2 the top of the cap can tend to dry out and as it does it then becomes a wonderful haven for all kinds of bacteria - and so spoilage. You want that cap to be constantly submerged and kept very wet.

Ok. When i get home ill do that. Ive tried using the small end of my stir stick but the angle of the nexk doesnt allow me to get too it. I have a stir rod that attaches to my drill. Ill try and take it easy so i dont have an MEA.

Note to self...all ways use a plastic bucket when making melomels...
