Have you ever bought a beer that tastes exactly like your own homebrew?

Well I just did. Sweetwater's 2015 Happy Ending tastes just like my own black IPA recipe. That being said, here's a recipe for a very good, hoppy, smoky black ale.

Vol: 5 gal.
OG:1.057
IBU:65.0
SRM:25.8
ABV:6.3% (albeit much lower than Sweetwater's 9%)

Malt:
9 lbs. 2-row
0.5 lbs. caramel-vienna
0.25 lbs. carapils
0.5 lbs. C-20
0.25 lbs. C-80
1 lb. Briess smoked malt (not Weyermann smoked malt!)
0.5 lbs. Carafa 2
0.5 lbs.C-77 (feel free to sub C-80 for this)

Hops:
4.4 oz. Columbus hops (14%AA):
- 1.6 oz. for 60 min.
- 0.6 oz. for 45 min.
- 0.6 oz. for 30 min.
- 0.6 oz. for 15 min. (maybe use amarillo for last 2 hop additions)
- 1 oz. for 0 min. of boil (take off burner and let soak for 15 min.)
- 1 oz. simcoe for dry hop

yeast: Wyeast's 1187 (ringwood); or WLP002

If you like a smokey porter but want something hoppy/bitter, then make this. Just saying..
