I just finished up a nut brown home brew. It tastes great, but the head disappears faster than I would like. Any suggestions on how to get better head retention for this beer the next time
Look at grain descriptions-some have descriptions with the grain.Carapils may be#1 wheat malt also breiss organic caramel 20, oat flakes, wheat flakes- there you go those are some good ones.Carafoam also
Head retention usually depends on two things- perfectly clean glassware, and the recipe of the beer.
If the glassware has been through the dishwasher or something, it may not be "bar clean". To fix that, make up a salt/water mix in the glass and use the thick mix as a scrub on the glass and rinse well.
To fix a recipe, consider crystal malts, or flaked wheat.
If you are doing extract brews, the only additions I am aware of that can increase head retention are crystal malt and cara-pils.
If you are mashing, you could add wheat malt, flaked wheat, torrified wheat, flaked oats, or flaked barley.
Although it is probably unlikely as nut brown ales usually don't contain any actual nuts, I also wanted to point out that if you did actually use any actual nuts, the oils would interfere with head retention
