I saw a similar discussion on another forum (acoustic guitar forum) and thought it was a great one. So...what's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

I'll start:

Always do the right thing, even if it is not the popular thing.

One day at a time.

Never spend more than you have.

Quality over quantity.

If your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep will be your downfall.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Be prepared.

Don't judge a book by its cover.

Brew your own beer.

Everyone thinks they are right.

97% of the people do what they do because they think they are right not because they are trying to screw with you.

My sister was bi-polar and after years of thearapy she told me this & I was totaly struck by how true it is. Many people go around thinking that everyoe is purposely screwing up or messing with them but the truth is most people are doing what they think is right. Only 3% of the population are totaly trying to mess with the world.

Two great bits of sage advice from my father...

"Do as I mean, not as i say."

And to stem off of the self-inflicted thing:
