I know you could do it. It really is simple, just put about 3 1/2 gallons of water into your 20qt pot, heat it to about 160 (varies according to the grain bill and your desired fermentability but close enough for a first try), stir in the grains, cover the pot and insulate it. An hour later (maybe less, depending on the milling of the grain and how gutsy you are) pull the bag of grains out and let it drain. Some people will put a colander across the top of the pot and set the bag of grains there to drain, some will put it in a bucket and dunk or pour over sparge there. At this point you have wort, same as if you had stirred extract into the water. If you don't have enough wort, you can sparge by pouring water through the bag of grains. This will get you about 2 1/2 gallons of beer. It will be so cheap and easy to get started you'll wonder why you kept doing extract kits for so long. :rockin:

I kinda get that part, I just didn' tknow what the terms were you said in your later post.

And I don't know what the Rate of water will soak into the grain and all that, so I woulnd't know how much to use, How much grain Etc.

I'm new to the all grain or BIAB. Never attempted it yet.

It's simpler than that. Forget the rate of water to soak into the grain. Forget the sparge. Just put 3 1/2 gallons of water in the pot, heat it to 160 degrees and put in the amount and type of grains in the recipe below. A the end of an hour lift the bag of grains and let it drain, then squeeze out any more of the liquid you can. You now have wort, the same as if you had added extract. Your amount of wort may be a little low but you can proceed with the brewing and have beer when you are done.

I'll go check out what it will cost, it may not be till next month before I can do that, but I'll give it a Roll, I know most of the processes but haven't done any of it cause of limited money, I just got the Kits cause it had everything in it to make the beer.

I'll check the grain bill then go with that. i'll have to figure out what material I can get to make a BIAB for my Pot so I can use that to Brew with. I got everything else, expect sparging and all the other stuff.

I know you wont' need it for BIAB. I just wasn't sure now much Grain and all that I needed. I know there is usually a Base Weight of Grain for All Grain and all.

not sure if i should tag onto this thread but the beersmith got me confused, i choose my equipment and it messes the brew up? Is there not an auto fix to reset original recipe? or what am i missing, how the heck do I know how to fix it?

BS2 desktop is the best $20 I have spent on brewing in the over 20 years I've been doing it. I thought about buying the Android version for my phone to use outside on brew day but based on the mediocre reviews of it on HBT I passed. Instead I use an ipad/2 with a Remote Desktop app to connect to the PC I'm running BS2 on which works fine.

You should probably start your own thread to ask specific questions. There is a brewing software forum you can post in. To start to answer your question, you need to input the settings for your equipment, including expected efficiency, etc. If you just choose a Beersmith default it likely won't match. Now if by messing up the recipe you mean it adjusts things to your inputted efficiency, losses, etc., that's what it's supposed to do. In particular with all grain or partial mash you always need to adjust the recipe to your particular system.

I love both the desktop version and the iphone version. I'm on a MacBook Pro. I especially like being able to load recipes on the cloud and being able to edit them while at the store if there is an item not available.

If you're tight on cash and can only pick one get the desktop version first and the mobile when you have the extra few bucks.
