alcohol in pill form?

You're supposed to take it out of the hard plastic shell!

leave it to the russians!!!
Really!!! No disrespect, no disrespect, but are Russians really concerned with getting booze into pill form because they are having trouble drinking enough? no disrespect, no disrespect...(saying that makes it ok right?)

HMMM....The only true advantage I can imagine is the savings and possible convenience of rehydrating a powdered beer or liquor.

I suppose it would save on shipping costs, cooling costs, detriment from heat and oxidation. Then again the energy required in the powdering process is a factor. It might be a good alternative for those who do not have access to fresh beer.

I can't imagine the drinking experience would be the same.

Russia has spent years working on developing the technology for a manned trip to Mars, which would probably last for at least two years. A bottle of pills weighs MUCH less than a case of brew.

Dehydration/reduction is how we got brandy in the first place: the Dutch were trying to make wine for transfer in kegs, so someone got the great idea to reduce the wine and just add water on the receiving end. Voila, brandy (burnt-wine)!

I just cant wait for them to start marketing beer with orangutans

ITS A KICK IN A GLASS!

heh, thanks. I was also reminded of one of those Doris Day movies, where Rock plays an ad executive who comes up with an alcohol pill of some sort.

This idea is just begging for abuse. How many pills is too much at one time? Someone will opt to try and die.

Would this be considered alcohol by definition of current laws? If not ( or if really fuzzy on the interpretation), then minors would be allowed to possess and consume. Except, once it rehydrated in their system, they would be in possession of liquid forms of alcohol.

What about flavor? That is why I like the many forms of alcohol. The variety of flavors and aromas. This just seem too close to hooching to me.

I couldn't even imagine the black-market industries warping of this idea. Mixing various illegal drugs with a percentage of powdered alcohol.

Too much trouble and not enough benefits.

Let's make a few things clear here. This is not dehydrating. That would just get you from say 80 proof vodka, to 200 proof. Once all the water is gone, you still have liquid ethanol. To only way to make ethanol a solid is to freeze it, and that would be mighty cold.

I haven't read the original paper, but what I can only imagine is that they developed a food safe powder that can absorb many times its weight in liquid. Analogous products would be those magic water crystals you can get now to add to your potting soil, and similar materials found in the modern miracle diapers that hold whole cups of p*ss and do not leak. Also found in Sanitary napkins!

Do a search for "water absorbing laminates"

Well, I just don't see the positives of this. For decades, we have had "alcohol in a pill"...they are called benzodiazepines. Xanax, Valium, Tranzene, Klonopin and the like hit the same receptors as alcohol. And they are highly abused. As will "beer in a pill".

Bad idea.
