Has any previously-it brewery actually gone down in popularity, aside from those that couldn't get their QC together and had their fanbase/clubs fall apart (White Birch, Jackie O's STAPH, HotD, etc)?

Offhand? Sixpoint, Floosmoor, Victory, Pisgah, Santa Fe, Southampton, Red Peak, Ithaca, Tyranena, Midnight Sun, De Struise, St Arnold, Cascade, Pelican, Freetail, Terrapin, Ninkasi... at least within the beer nerd community. They might all be up in sales for all I know.

I forget, was Marin ever an "It" brewery? I know they one a ton of awards at one point, but it was mostly before I moved out here.

Rogue maybe?

I realized after I posted that it was a stupidly-framed question, because we all have our finger on the pulse of the beer geek scene and no idea of sales in the overall world. Craft as a whole is expanding, so even if a brewery falls out of favor with neckbeards, it bleeds into the second-tier drinkers that want a step up from Sam Adams but aren't quite chasing SARA.

Marin's still around (though I was talking about the craft boom of the past decade, not the 1990s); Rogue is in Costco, and a bunch of the ones jedwards listed are expanding distro, not contracting. Sixpoint can afford Untappd badges; Flossmoor was never a thing outside of like 5 beers, Red Peak -- I see what you did there.

Anyway, ignore my question. The general idea I was trying to convey was that any brewery that rode explosive growth from 2005 to 2011 shouldn't be surprised that they're still popular from 2011 to 2015, given that the industry as a whole is exploding. I think Russian River's attempt to show false modesty is making them look ignorant and short-sighted, especially when it persists for several years.

Went to Drakes Dealership. Service was horrendous and we didn't order any food. It pains me to say that too because I really like our server (I know her from other places). She was super apologetic about the ****-show and explained that it has to do with how the orders come into the bar, which didn't make all that much sense. We found ourselves waiting around ten minutes between beers. They were certainly not understaffed by any means. Most of the wait staff looked confused and/or annoyed. People kept trying to give us food we didn't order. "Are you sure you didn't order a pizza?" It was a mess. I think I'll try them again in October.

And they do do growler fills, but I left with the empty I brought. I simply didn't want ho-hum IPA badly enough to endure whatever crazy process is involved in filling a growler.

**EDIT** Also, they are apparently sitting on kegs of Rare Barrel, Cellarmaker, and Fieldwork but have yet to tap them. Sounds like this place is going to have great guest taps eventually.
This makes me pretty excited. I work one block away from this place.

Might not want to sit on those Cellarmaker and Fieldwork kegs too long. Assuming they are the hoppier offerings.

It's also not bright even so.
Well, in an ideal world, sure. But it's entirely possible that some dipshit regulator is taking longer than anticipated to give them the clearance to serve beer other than theirs. Or whatever. Lots of reasons for them to have been given kegs anticipating they'd be able to go on soon only for it to be delayed. And it won't be a big deal for the beer, unless they're delayed months.

Do any of you know if Sierra Nevada Maple Stout is regularly available for sale to-go at the Torpedo Room or up in Chico?

It was only bottled once as far as I know. Not sure if they have another batch in the works or not, but I am pissed I miss the release in Berkeley last year.

Thinking they have released it at least twice.

I remember a very small run of a few cases a couple years ago over in Chico, but I don't know of any other that was as large or announced like the one from a year ago. Unless I may be missing something?

The first one was smaller, sold out almost instantly. Second one lasted a few days. Back me up on this schwartzoid. Edit: both available in Berkeley.

Random. Was in Truckee yesterday and peaked into what appears to be the new (old?) Lake Tahoe Brewing. They seem to be in the middle of construction but the building is an old service station which is kinda cool. Is Eli the guy that came to TMBC from Crooked Stave?
Yup that guy.

I'm not aware of any "Lake Tahoe" brewery ever existing in Truckee. There is these new dicks called "Lake Tahoe Brewing Co" with locations in Carson, Fernley, and I think Reno, who've been open for less than 2 years (so enough evidence for deep pocketed investment alone) and make very mediocre beer, but seem to win all the local fests lol. It wouldn't surprise me if they're putting up another location in Truckee I guess.

Awesome. They've always struck me as, like, the Pyramid of Tahoe. But if he's there...
So at the pyramid of Lake Tahoe, and they've never heard of Eli, so the case goes cold...

Well, ****. I just heard from one of the brewers at one of those places and it turns out that's not true.

So for the record, when I said "Also, they are apparently sitting on kegs of Rare Barrel, Cellarmaker, and Fieldwork but have yet to tap them," I was passing along misinformation.

Just want to kill this rumor before it went further.

everyone alright over there? Hearing reports of a pretty strong earthquake this morning
Already? It was like 5 minutes ago. Epicenter was ~3 miles from my house, only a 4.2 but so close it felt really intense. My cats were both flipping out in the most hilarious manner. I think this new house is worse for earthquakes, maybe it was just that the windows all made a ton of noise but that one definitely felt more intense than they typically do. Once it ended in ~5 seconds I actually looked out my window to see if there was a gas line explosion or anything, it just didn't feel like earthquakes have in the past.

Anyway, no damage as far as I can tell so that's cool. I haven't checked the cellar though...

Fiance' said some stuff shook up and car alarms went off. It was actually stronger at our house than the Napa earthquake however many months ago. I was pulling into work, so I didn't feel a thing.
