Apparently Perry's Liquors is getting shut down, or having their liquor license taken away. Something along those lines. No clue if true, but I heard it from a friend first, then a bar owner who said the same thing. All I can confirm is that I went to Trader Joe's on Wednesday and they were closed

Well that's interesting.

I had originally heard a few weeks back they were in the process of buying Olde Depot, but that was a lie. But from what I heard from multiple people yesterday was they were selling alcohol to minors. Wouldn't surprise me one bit either. Family run operation with only 2 capable people working period. I hate to sound like an awful person, but Harpreet's uncle had a stroke or something that he wasn't all there anymore and he would always be there when I used to go, no idea why they'd have him working. Coupled with a cousin who was baked 24/7 and it was just a matter of time before they got caught in something. Diego, Harpreet's dad and occasionally Harpreet's mom were the only capable employees and Diego left after the Teddy Swimmer threats.

Turns out that the Perry's in Pleasanton is the one shut down. Perry's in Livermore was closed this week for some unrelated reason. No affiliation between the 2. Livermore Perry's is still able to rape wallets at any opportunity

I heard the El Sobrante shop has pretty decent prices. Shockingly enough, the Livermore location got RateBeer's top shop in NorCal apparently.

I only went twice, first time I thought everything was a dollar or two over priced, second time they wanted $16 for Alpine bottles - no thanks.

My buddy is going to visit his brother in Oakland (close to Berkeley) this Thursday through Tuesday. He offered to stop at a bottle shop for me and bring back some beer to Chicago in his suitcase. I was wondering if anyone can let me know of the best liquor store to stop at in that area and some suggestions that I could tell him to pick up that are on the shelf.

Probably Whole Foods, honestly. The Oakland one has a pretty huge selection. Though he won't be able to get Pliny.

Thanks, I'll let him know. Not concerned about Pliny. Just looking for some suggestions of good beers that should be on the shelf that I can't get in Chicago. Any suggestions are appreciated.

This the same Perrys that there was the whole fiasco about them selling Beat/HT to people and they got caught on FB?

The infamous old middle-eastern lady holding a gun and ****** beanie pic?

Or is that a different place I am thinking of?

Here's a place in SF that keeps their list mostly up-to-date: http://www.beermenus.com/places/1615-healthy-spirits

The Whole Foods won't have all that but it'll be similar. I can't really answer your question because:

1) I don't know what's on the shelves in Chicago.
2) I don't know what's on the shelves here (I don't actually buy beer that often).

The one in Livermore is the the ****** one.

That was the one with the whole Beat fiasco?

Is it all owned by the same family?

Funny thing is that I remember exactly who they were at the Beat release. They got 6 cases and drank maybe 1 beer, and half of them left immediately.

Perry's in Livermore is the one with the Beat fiasco, yes.

There's a Perry's in Pleasanton, another Perry's in Hayward, and another Perry's in Union City. I have no idea if they're related, but it's such an odd name to pick for a liquor store that it can't be a complete coincidence.

Diego left after the Teddy Swimmer threats.

Really? That's hilarious. The South will rise again, apparently.

The weird thing is that this guy next to me pointed out that exact family, and said they owned Perry's in Pleasanton.

On the RRB FB page, it showed the same family at the Hayward shop as well.

meh. that's as far as Ill think about it.

I'll be in the area March 27th-April 1st, anything interesting going on that weekend?

Lots more Almanac for 2014

http://www.almanacbeer.com/2014/02/whatsnextforalmanac/

tl;dr

Oak-aged beer will be the heart of the brewery and sour fruit beers will remain the foundation of this program. We will release a new barrel-aged beer every month in 2014 and beyond.

From their first beer to now, the most amazing turnaround I've seen from any brewery in recent memory. Valley of Heart's Delight is tasty as hell.

What's even more incredible is that the first beer was just disappointing. Decent but not exciting. And then they took a nose-dive, making over-priced and bad beers (looking at you Biere de Mars). Since last year's beer week, they've been basically killing it.

Also that first beer is actually pretty good right now. Kind of weird.

Most people feel this way. I like it a lot -- more than Valley of the Heart's Delight -- which means I'm definitely a freak.
Haha to each his own. Did you find it to be sour at all? that was part of my issue with it, I didn't get any tartness whatsoever. We can all agree that valley is delicious though

It's not meant to be sour -- it's a brett saison dry-hopped with mosaic.

Which is why you shouldn't name a non-sour beer "Sourdough Wild," of course.

Chalk one up for someone who did not like Valley, but liked Dopatch Sour and their Bourbon Sour Porter

Been to 7 beer stores in the last 24 hours, how the **** did Beer Revolution go from the cheapest (or at least relatively wise) to the most expensive? I mean it used to be that Beer Rev was on par with Star Grocery and Berkeley Bowl, but now it seems to be out pricing Trappist Provisions and OL Beer Cafe, that is some going.

Out of the shops (exuding Beer Rev)I went to 3F Oude Kriek ranged from $14.29 up to $15.50. Beer Rev it has it on its shelves for $19.99.

Consecration is $11 in Trappist Provisions, get Beer Rev wants $13 for a bottle.

Even Fantome is $3 more expensive than Trappist and Ol. Its fast becoming not even worth stopping for bottles there anymore.

Oh but they do have Pliny and Blind Pig on the shelves on Sundays. I was issed off enough to not bother picking up any Pig, rather go without and spend at more price friendly spots these days.
