The Sonoma Pride beers are flavorless and forgettable. I really did not expect that.
I was under impressed....but willing to wait till after second bottles. Not heard any favorable reviews, so maybe you have it nailed

You're damn right. I tried one (Amasa?) and it sucked.

Vinnie's like:

Plus, their description of the other one on their website kills me:

Brewed and bottled to a moderate strength of 6% ABV, Dauenhauer is a copper colored well hopped domesticated wild ale (but not an IPA).

Not an IPA?

I picked up two of each. I'll try them fresh and then see if the bret makes em interesting in a year or two. Sounds like they weren't really going for it the way they do with most of their beers.

Oh god I can't stop laughing

Yes. But they're out of Pliny and Pig bottles. This **** isn't funny anymore.

They are, in fact, permanently out of Blind Pig. Like, they stopped bottling it. Growlers only now.

I really liked the Sonoma Pride beer that I had (Dauenhauer). It was not an EXTREEME beer, granted, but it was tasty and drinkable. Not every beer has to hit you over the head with flavor to be good. I thought the Brett character was awesome. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Swung by RR yesterday after the world cup (saw the line before the world cup began and it was quite long) and got Hopfather and Ales of ALS fills. Lady behind the merchandise counter convinced me on Amasa. Fairly disappointed with that decision.

How is the Hopfather this year?

I thought they were still doing bottles at the brewpub only, just no distro.

No, but it should have some flavor. I had both on a clean palate (well, I had Dauenhauer after Amasa), it was really hot, and I was thirsty as hell. I didn't want extreme, I just wanted something tasty and crisp. I poured out both and drank water. To each his own.

EDIT: This is the only time where I've showed up with 4 growlers and regretted not bringing 6. Three of my growlers went to other people, and damn, I love Plah-knee.

That would make sense about Blind Pig! I heard the merch lady say that to another group but I guess I misheard. And I just opened an Amasa and it's definitely lacking compared to Dauenhauer. Maybe there's bottle variation too? I think it's just taste, though. I am not afraid to admit that Anchor Steam is and will always be in my top 5 favorite beers, for instance.

I feel you. I'm getting further away from "big" beers and really enjoy having stuff like Anchor Steam, Trumer Pils, Alpha Session (when in season), Paulaner Oktoberfest around the house. I don't know how I'd structure my top 5, but I definitely appreciate those styles and was looking for something similar in Sonoma Pride.

Blind Pig bottles were available today. As mentioned previously they will now only be available at the brewpub.

Better than the small replacement batch they did last year but not nearly as good as the original batches from 09 and 10. Happy Hops has dominated the left hand side since Mosaic hops have been added.
Also worth mentioning that the revised Erudition is outstanding. Old batches clocked in close to 7% and this new batch is a shade under 5%. Fantastic farmhouse ale that blows away both Sonoma Pride beers. My favorite non-sour on the right hand side.

Is it bretted now? Probably my favorite beer Vinnie has ever made is Publication. Would love it if Erudition went that direction...

Going off memory I found Publication to be way too phenolic and was like liquid band aid. Erudition is a crisper version of their Saison Blonde.

Anyone else heading down to the Brouwerij Het Uiltje meet-the-brewer at Mikkeller Bar tonight? Looks like a good time.

Last time I went to Mikkeller, my friend ordered a Sour in the Rye... 250ml and $12.

$12!!!!!!!!!!!
