Women love dogs. Nash goes everywhere I can take him.

Great looking dog! I have two Boxers as well, best dogs I've ever had.

Here are my two best friends waiting for a drink of beer! See the look of anticipation in their faces?

Lucky Lab in Portland is dog friendly in the outdoor portion. Health codes keep the dogs outside, but pet friendly, great beer, great vibe. People bring their dogs to pretty much every homebrew event I've been to. Haven't had a problem except for one friend's dog who is extremely devious when it comes to stealing pints. Now that I watch her, she's moved on to easier targets.

Thought I was on the boxerforum for a sec :) Good looking Boxer dogs you two. I have two myself

I would love to take my dog to the bar. The problem is that other dogs would be allowed in the bar also, and they might not be as well behaved as mine.

I think the solution for a baldly behaved dog anywhere is to let the dog stay and kick the owner out, the dog can be trained. Or better yet take the bad kids and the bad dogs, lock them in the bar for the afternoon and go find somewhere else to drink.

Shortened it for you to get right to the point! :drunk:

Actually, now that I think about it, the solution for a BALDLY behaved dog would be Rogaine, wouldn't it?

it seems like a cool idea but when in history has that 1% not ruined it for the other 99%? that would be the biggest problem, people who think that their dog is trained when it is not. If there is a set night once a week like someone mentioned earlier that would be ok because everybody knows what they are getting into then.

I dont even think that dogs should be allowed on patios if food is served. I have seen it before while bartending some upset lady blithering something about hair nets and how disgusting the kitchen is while holding her plate with a brownish hair on it, coincidentaly the exact same length and color of the dog next to the table she is at.

Agreed... I love a place that will accept me and my friend, but then again I'm pretty aware of how she's doing. We have a little place down the street (see dive bar on wikipedia) that allows dogs but if it starts to get too crowded or she's looking uncomfortable then I either put her in the tuck or I leave.

The simple answer is pretty much how airborne put it: if he sees dogs at a restaurant/bar, he'll go someplace else. IF you decide to stay, you give up all rights to complain.

There was a beautiful old pub in the Bayswater section of London called the Archery. I had been there a few times during my visits. Usually in the later afternoons some older gentlemen would come in with their dogs. The gents would have a pint a read the paper while the dogs would sleep at their feet. Well behaved dogs are no problem. Unfortunately the Archer has closed and a restaurant is there no. Very sad as it was a great local pub.

Totally off topic, but my favorite pub when I spent time in London was called King's Head and Eight Bells. It was right on the Thames and was well established as a historical London pub (nobility gathered there during the 16 and 1700's).

It too has gone away and has been replaced by a FRENCH BISTRO!!! I love France. I actually enjoy bistros. But tearing down a historic pub for a bistro???? Was so angry to hear that.

I was in a bar last night, and some chick walked in with her lizard clinging to her coat. I laughed and thought of this thread.

that doesn't count, neither do cats.
may have been a service lizard though. maybe people who lack the ability to look apathetic have the lizards to provide that service for them. helpful to women in bars for when they get hit on

I spent a lot of time working in Paris. Very common for Parisians to bring their dogs into restaurants with them. Those dogs are remarkable... they disappear under the table until the patron leaves.

screw that. i'm pretty allergic to dogs.

you can bring your dog if I can sneeze all night in your beer.

also you'll have to wash my clothes and jacket, preferably before I get home and get dog hair all over my house.

so allergic people have more rights in than non-allergic people? and just because you're allergic to dogs, the owner of the establishment and all other patrons should conform?

if the owner of an establishment wishes to allow dogs, it's still a free country and people who are allergic can choose not to go there...

if an owner of an establishment chooses not to allow dogs, dog lovers who want to bring their dogs can choose to go elsewhere...

it's really not complicated...freedom of choice...

i don't think anybody has said dogs should be illegal, they have just said they don't really want them there. many people who were against dogs have said exactly what you just said beernewb, that they would choose not to go to those bars.

That may be technically correct but in the same fashion it is not.

My family has owned a burger joint for 31 years. Our policy had always been, "no dogs allowed inside." That is, until we asked this drunk fool to take his dog outside. He claimed it was a service dog. He also claimed the dog wasn't his. Other customers called the police because he was getting irate (imagine that, a drunk fool being irate). He leaves before the police arrive. A few weeks later we get a notice that we are being sued because we refused entrance to a service dog.

Of course, this will never see an actual courtroom but the cost for attorneys, etc made us change our policy. We even called the Multnomah County Health Department. They said as soon as someone claims its a service dog, they are allowed in. No paperwork required, no service dog vest, nothing. So our new policy is: bring any animal in, we don't care. Got a pet pig, bring it in, got a pet spider, bring it in. We'd rather not be sued again.

All this is really pathetic to be honest. We had to change our policy because of one drunken fool. Even the county health departments hands are tied.

it was brought up in another thread about dogs and bars. i'm just curious what peoples thoughts are on this. another poster mentioned that he didn't care for a place that allows dogs. no problem, it a personal opinion. i have two dogs. a big lazy one (named fry) and younger, small (50 lbs) jittery one named bender. both black and tan coonhound mutts.
while bender is nowhere near trained well enough yet to go to a bar, Fry goes to many.
i personally enjoy bars that have well trained dogs and when i go into a bar that has a dog in it, i immediatly smile and am happy to be there and will probably settle in for a longer stay if dogs are around; just feels more like home. but i'm a dog guy.
in the circle i run in, great craft beer and great dogs seem to go hand in hand.
what do you folks think?

I've never seen a dog in a bar, but I agree. Craft brew and dogs are both awesome. My wife and I just got an English Bulldog and I'm going to love hanging out with her and having a beer. Ahh, the good things in life.

While I totally agree with everything you said about private property, people with allergies definitely have more rights than people who want to bring their dog somewhere. "Rights" isn't exactly the correct word, but the point is the same.

Squamish, BC is the best place I've ever been for dog culture. Everyone brings their dogs downtown, to the coffee shops, and sometimes to the pub patios (but not inside, not permitted here). I found it absolutely amazing how socialized and well behaved the dogs where in that town!!! A dog culture can make a major difference on how animals act and how they may then be permitted to be places. I now live in a town that has no dog culture at all. No real dog parks, no places that people can gather with their dogs. The result is poorly socialized and trained dogs that no one wants to be around. Can be a catch 22.

Wow. Such hatred.

it wasn't hatred. he was just being honest. nothing wrong with that.
i do think it's funny that somehow if he is in a bar with a dog, then he gets covered in hair, but i think that was the point.
allergies can be a pain, i am aware. all that cologne and perfume sets my nose off, so i move away from those people.

I have allergies too, but I guess I misjudged his intent. It was pretty over the top though with the sneezing in people's beer bit. I'm just the type of person who believes if you don't like what's on TV you change the channel and if you don't like what goes on in a certain establishment you don't patronize it.
