Tried to find the answer to this with search. No luck.
Is the ball valves you can get at HD/Lowes the same as those you buy from a online store like northern brewer or Midwest. The guy's at Hd told me the valves they had were not for hot applications. Thanks

The brass ball valves at HD will be similar to the brass valves available online. I've not seen stainless ball valves at HD so YMMV there.

Uhh hot as in what? We're only talking boiling temps. The watt's 1/2" brass ball valves I've bought at HD are rated to 400°F and 600 PSI.

HD dude must have been smoking something or messing with you. If they are not used for "hot" applications, why are they used on the outflow of hot water heaters? Use them to find the items you are looking for but understand that the majority of those employees don't know anything about how to use the items on the shelves.
