This thread isn't about the whole brewing process. It's about the bottling process.

See I see it more as a my vs your way type of argument where of course more people use starsan so the minority is taking a beating for not conforming..... :tank:
The fact that the OP stated that he hasnt had good luck with using starsan to sterilize the bottles is what has me puzzled because as long as one follows the directions its a pretty foolproof method which is avoids his apparent dilemmas...
I mean honestly hes apparently not having any better luck with the oven method either right?
I can see where some would assume the caps were made of some sort of pure Hi temp silicone but being the origin and cost this is one of those things that should be confirmed and not assumed since they are clearly not made of advertised for such use... sorry just the way I see it.

I know how to use Star San. I'm not asking about Star San. I prefer to sterilize the bottles in the oven and it's been very successful for me. Except for one time when I experimented with silicone caps.

Yeah. So going with that in mind, I highly recommend going with the foil caps. Outside air getting in after they cool isn't going to contaminate anything, as one poster mentioned. They don't let any contaminates in, they're reusable, and they can withstand being baked. Win, win, win.

This is actually the way I was taught to sanitize the bottles. People here are pretty resourceful and ingenious when it comes to homebrewing solutions because things can get pretty expensive. In order to not have to use sanitizer at that step, a lot of people bake the bottles. I don't do it anymore because it's much more work than starsan, and I'm lazy when it comes to that sort of stuff, but I honestly think it does a better job than starsan does. I've accidentally had a couple of bottles get infected since switching to starsan, and I never had one when I baked them.
