I am fairly new to home brewing. I have had great success kegging, but when I bottle the beer has a horrible aftertaste that not everyone can taste but I do. Is there a way to force carbonate in the keg then bottle? I have tried but can't fill the bottles (too much foam).

I usually turn the pressure down a bit, stick a hose in the end of the tap that touches the bottom of the bottle and fill. It works fine for me. You need to cap immediately though.

Also, you can check out Counter Pressure Bottle Fillers or if you want to save money, the Poor Mans Bottle Filler works just as well.

BGS, not to dissuade you from kegging and then bottling, because that is a good method, but if you are getting an aftertaste from bottle conditioned beer, then you are either 1) doing it wrong or 2) psyching yourself out.

Some outstanding beers are bottle conditioned - Sierra Nevada, for example.

I just did sierra nevada and it has the same after taste. I think it's the yeast.

I think he was pointing out the company, not a specific brew. [rant]Maybe it's because I grew up near Chico, and lived in Chico for a few years, but dammit, Sierra Nevada is not a specific beer it's a brewing company. You didn't do Sierra Nevada, you made a Pale Ale (or some other style clone)[/rant] Sorry, had to get that out. It's not just you, other people say it as well.

Anyway, if you are getting a strange taste when using only bottles, then something in your process is flawed. Could be cleaning, could be sanitation, who knows. How are you cleaning and sanitizing the bottles, as well as your bottling bucket. Are you using a different siphon when you bottle. Describe the process you go through when you bottle and maybe someone will pick something up.

You wouldn't by chance be drinking them straight from the bottle or pouring all of the contents into a glass (including the trub at the bottom of the bottle) would you?
