My name is Andy and I hail from Cumming, GA (about 40 miles north of Atlanta). I enjoy artistic painting and going to Music Festivals with my 16 year old son (Bonnarroo and Wanee in 2008). Too much fun!

I took a bit of a homebrewing detour the last 10 years while I went through a divorce, a new marriage, and raising 3 wonderful kids. I even moved 5 times, but never outside of a 10 mile radius. Strange times indeed.

So I dusted off my homebrewing kit this weekend and boiled up some wort yesterday. My kitchen hasn't smelled so good in a decade :cross: My new wife even likes the aroma of the wort.....nice change from the weenie ex-wife (but I digress)

Looking forward to getting back in the swing and joined the forum to help with ideas and tips.

By the way, when I took the OG yesterday it was 1.038 which seemed awfully low to me. Any ideas as to why lower than expected? Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

Happy New Year and Happy Brewing in 2009

Glad to hear you are back to brewing! I am not sure why your OG is so low. Some of the experts here may be able to answer it for you. My only guess is either you are adding too much water or your malt extract is on the light side.

After some more research I think you're right about the malt level being light. Not sure why based on the ingredients, but I have my fingers crossed that the yeast can still do it's thing in the next day or two. I'll let you know how it goes.
