Sorry if discussed in another thread but I didn't find it. I'm trying to buy some stout/porter all grain kits and almost all of them are out of stock at MoreBeer, Northernbrewer and AHB. What's going on? Never has seen this before. Did I miss something? Tks

Aren't those the three companies that got bought up and combined into one (but operating under all three names) and about to share a single warehouse in the southeast somewhere? If so I expect their operations are totally disrupted right now...

Northern Brewer (NB), Midwest Supplies (MWS), Adventures in Homebrewing (AIH), and Austin Homebrew Supply have new owners as of Sept 2024 (link).

The MN warehouse was moved to SC just before Helene went through that area. As of today, I-40 in western NC is closed in a number of places (according to Apple Maps).

Over this same time period, MoreBeer has been consolidating their PA & CA warehouses into a single warehouse in KS (yay for me!).

My guess is that all the HomeBrewTalk sponsor stores (Farmhouse, Home Brew Ohio, Williams, RiteBrew, ..., ..., ...) will have dark malts (and dark beer kits) in stock.

Every all grain stout kit I checked at MoreBeer is in stock.

Not if you choose NO on the pre-milled option. Some/ most are available if you choose yes.
At morebeer, that option only applies to the base malts. Their crush sucks, so I would run them through a mill anyway if you have access to one.
…meaning it’s not a dark malt problem.

This is correct. You choose not milled and then the kit becomes unavailable. I agree that I do not like their crush. On the kits the specialty malts come crush and I think they are crushed too thin. I guess there are supply chain issues somewhere. I am at Michigan and like a lot the service and quick delivery from MoreBeer plus some of their recipes are great. Thanks for the replies.

That seems strange as it suggests that they keep pre-milled grains around (for who knows how long) which seems like a bad idea. And since the specialty grains are milled anyway the backorder wouldn't have anything to do with dark malts being out of stock. I checked a couple of the recipe sheets and all of the individual components are in stock (and may be cheaper to order that way anyhow).

Could be a glitch. Or maybe a warehouse issue. Might be worth giving them a call or sending an email.

No problem in Ontario, Canada. I just ordered various kinds of dark malts. Brewing a stout soon.

Just an FYI, if a kit is out of stock, most of the shops you mention list the recipe of the kit on their websites. You can easily just order the ingredients individually. Have done that sometimes myself and in some cases, it can even be cheaper than the kits.

the individual malts were out too. Anyway, three days ago i was able to order the kit. Also I saw that Morebeer was consolidating their warehouse. probably that has some to do. Thanks all.
