Are Corney kegs water-tight w/ no pressure?

It seems like a dumb question, but I spent about 20 minutes searching this sub-forum before posting (here's the last search I tried), but can't seem to find a simple answer.

It's been about 6 years since I've used my system (I know, I know...) and I don't remember one way or another. I filled them with water to clean them last night and when I shook them/turned them on their side with the lids on (no pressure) both of them leak substantially. I seem to recall that they have to be pressurized to hold a good seal, but it HAS been a long time.

Anyone wanna save me some more searching?

Yes they need positive pressure to seal. Generally you don't even need that 'clamp' on the lid once pressurized.

Did you use keg lube? I find that mine tend to leak when I am cleaning them out, etc. but once they are lubed up they don't leak too much, even with no pressure.

some of mine leak pretty good without pressure. Don't worry, once you get some pressure, everything seats nicely.

Thanks for the quick replies, I hit the "thumbs up" on all three. They're happily soaking away in WM's "Oxyclean".
