I'm heading down to Branson, MO in a few days for a family trip. I'd like to stop at some good beer bars in the downtown Branson area if they have any. Any advice? Also, are there any good beer stores I should stop into?

I was in Branson once; that was quite sufficient. From my best recollection of the area, I would expect nothing but a BMC-orama.

If you're lucky. I was there a few years ago and had to WORK to find beer - BMC from a gas station at that. I don't think it's a dry county, but it sure as hell felt like one.

I'm with rico - once is enough, probably too much.

Wwwwweeeeeellllllllllll.... Before you go and cancel your trip down to old-folk-ville, I would like to try and counter my right honorable fella's before me that so kindly spoke of Branson. I currently live here in the little ozark town known for it's small production show business and not so glamorous amenities. I've been here for 3 yrs now and I will admit, we are a little behind on the craft brew movement (I mean c'mon it only started, what, 30 yrs ago? This is the ozarks! lol.). However, since I have been here we have made some improvements. Not so much in the way of Microbreweries but definitely in the selection of beer in restaurants. Let me give you a few options.

The only microbrewery in town pretty much keeps it a secret to itself and I can see why. The folks at a restaurant called "Charlies Ribs" has two brews in house. Mediocre at best for our standards here on the homebrewtalk but a microbrew nonetheless.

A few restaurants have been doing their best to broaden the horizon here in Branson. Probably the two favorites are Old Chicago and Waxy O'Shea's, both located at the Branson Landing.

One last resort would be the only "liquor store" in town. Missouri has some of the most loose regulations on alcohol next to Nevada and Louisiana, so hard liquor and everything below can be found at any retail place around (not kidding, go to walgreens and buy a fith). However, because of that "wonderful" comodity, it is very hard to find much of a selection in specialty beers. So with that in mind I recommend "The Wine Company" for your harder to find beers. This you can take back to your hotel or condo.

I hope this helps you out. Someday I would like to open a legitimate brewhaus here in Branson. I have the place picked out and everything. But if you guys keep running off my potential customers, what hopes do I have? =P

Jared, I was going to come to your defense!!

Old Chicago has great pizza and a decent beer selection. Similarly, The Wine Shop had a healthy variety of beers. They even had a few things I've had trouble tracking down here in Dallas.

Well, at least I know there's an old chicago. I'm a member of the "beer tour" here in Rockford, so maybe I'll go knock out a couple beers they don't have on tap here. In rockford, our Old Chicago has 110 different beers, or something like that. They're just now starting to carry really good beers.

Not far away is Springfield (you'll probably drive through on your way to Branson) where you can find Springfield Brewing Company www.springfieldbrewingco.com

They don't serve beer, but the food is damn good and plentiful at Lamberts in Ozark, MO between Springfield and Branson.

Lamberts.... is that the home of the thrown roll? If so, I've been there a few times. Usually stop in whenever I go down south. Love it. I always leave there and end up with a hunger for fried okra.

After so many years of enjoying malted beverages, when my brain comes upon the words "They don't serve beer-" it just starts generating LALALALALALALALA.....

.....now, what were we discussing?

Beer is nice...but food and I have had a life-long committment to one another. This place has incredible "down south" home cookin'.

If you are going to Lamberts go hungry,,,,,Lotsa great food, No beer,,,but its still waaaaaaay worth your time.

Ok after speaking with a buddy/ semi alcoholic(but hey who isn't) we have gathered a list of Branson stores with craftbrews.
-the white oaks
-country mart
-there's a liquor store next to the country mart
-grocery store next to the walmart

there are various liquor stores which will have craft brews(goose island, moosedrool, o'fallon, shafly, etc)

I'm going to check out White Oaks tomorrow afternoon, but tonights searches didn't go well. I went to the grocery store next to walmart and the best craft brew (almost the only) they had was Moose Drool. Other than that, I saw alot of Boulevard beers (not a huge fan). The local brewery, Charlies, had horrible beers. The stout was watery and lacking flavor. A friend I was with had their brown ale and a red ale, both were subpar.

Hopefully my efforts will prove successful tomorrow.
