I followed some steps I found on here and had a good sized starter.
It did smell a LITTLE sour, not vinegar or cheesy, and not that strong really.
I kinda wondered if anyone has done this with Pliny or other Russian River beers.
And if it had any of that similar odor.
Nothing to do now but wait I guess.

Forgot to mention that I pitched last night around 7pm and had krausen in the 1 1/4" blow off tube at 6am this morn, VERY active

Also, if the yeast is contaminated, would it be worthwhile to pitch some more yeast that I know to be good?

What was the source? The PtE in bottles made at the production facility is centrifuged to remove yeast.

I've noticed through years of drinking PtE that some batches are more successful than others are removing the yeast.. I had one within the last couple months that had so much yeast sediment on the bottom (on par with what I'm used to in Oberon) I'm confident I could have easily harvested from it had I desired.

Straight from the brewery, I had a friend drive out from the west coast for the holidays, the bottles I had were loaded with yeast.

Doesn't much matter if its just WLP001 I guess
