I have seen these kinds of jars around, the ones with the handles are particularly nice looking but I dont know anyone that has bottled with them.

If the screw top lid is sealed why wouldnt it be a good idea?

Has anyone bottled with these?

I'd be afraid the glass and thin metal lid couldn't hold he pressure of the carbing process
 
It's possible you could screw the lid tight and seal the jar ('m guessing it would stay sealed). I don't see why not. The old Ball jars had a nice rubber seal on the piece in the lid that would have made a damn fine seal.

But the glass might not take the pressure. If it's not designed for positive pressure, like IP said, you run the risk of having to post some embarrassing pictures on your favorite brewing forum :)
