I'm having some trouble finding a gallon jar locally to make starters in. I did find 1/2 gallon Ball mason jars. I worry that they will not leave enough head space so was going to split a 1/2 gallon starter between two jars. Any issue with doing that? My guess is no but just want to make sure there isn't some crazy scientific reason not to.

Holy crap a 1gal starter how big of a batch are you makin?? 30 gal :rockin:

Hopefully a big 5 gallon batch! Sure, you can split them up, as you've seen. I do it all the time - make 2x5 gallon batches with the same strain of yeast that has been split several times.
