I missed my og by .012 (got 1.070 shooting for 1.082). Ive taken the beer off of the trub and filtered out the residual hops. Just thinking since its no longer sitting on the hops can i boil some or all of it down to try and hit my gravity?

Have you read any of the countless missed og threads, and seen that the answers usually the same, simply an false reading from the water and wort not properly being mixed? If you're doing extract and topped off with water, that is the issue, and there's nothing you needed to do.

If you do, you'll still be breaking down the alpha acids in the wort, and I would expect it to have a detrimental effect on hop aroma and flavor.

Spend $45 and get a *refractometer, and test your wort several times during the boil - you can boil-off until you hit your intended target.

Another alternative, until you get your all-grain methods dialed in, is to keep a bag or two of DME on hand. Add it toward the end of the boil if you need to. IF you need to.

How is your grain crushed? If you're consistently missing your OG, are you taking note of the pre/post boil gravity readings in regards to your volume? You need to analyze YOUR results and use those to form YOUR repeatable process, not what some other guy did with the same recipe. For example, I know the markings on the side of plastic fermenters aren't always the most accurate, but I figure since that's the only measuring tool I use, as long as I'm consistent I'll end up with repeatable results even if it isn't exactly 5 gallons of finished wort.

Taking note of all the numbers you hit is pretty important to be able to brew AG batches consistently.

Probably not a good idea to do that. You may want to add some extract instead. There are caculations to determine how much.

If you keep missing your OG you may want to try boiling more vigorously or boil off more wort. There is a caculation that will tell you what your expected post boil gravity will be at a certain volume based on your pre-boil gravity. I don't know the caculation off hand but it has to do with dividing Gravity Units(GU) by your volume. So for example if your pre-boil gravity is 1.060 and volume is 7.5 gallons then your GU is 60*7.5=450 then you divide the 450 into the final volume you are looking for. So if you want 1.082 wort after boil, you divde your GU/OG target. so in this case it's 450/82=5.48 gallons. So if your pre-boil gravity is lower than that (say 1.055) you will have to boil off more wort.
55*7.5=412 GU 412/82=5.02 gallons at flame out. You also have to consider trub will take up some of that volume.

Something like that
