One of the features I really liked in Brewer's Friend was the hop absorption ratio. The only setting I have seen in Brewfather is the trub/kettle losses as a static number. In reality it is linear since the hop matter at 1oz is significantly less than say 8-12oz. Am I missing something in my equipment settings?

I could change a recipe from 1oz to 100000oz of hops and the water volumes don't change. Silly.

I prefer Brewfather over Brewer's Friend as of recently, but this feature must be something I am missing in the settings.

Thanks

I think that feature request has been in the queue for a while now. Currently you have to modify the trub/chiller loss for every batch based on your hop charge. I agree, it's a pain (also for the fermenter loss when you dry hop)

edit: just checked - this feature request was entered 4 years ago (https://gitlab.com/warpkode/public/brewfather/-/issues/690)

This. It took me about 7-8 brews (1 gal tests) to figure this out. I go with what I found as a standard of 1oz hops absorbs 12oz of wort, so using 5oz of hops equals 60oz of wort loss; or 60/128 = 0.46875 loss. I add 10 percent to make sure I am not short. My last two brews have been much closer to hitting numbers.

fwiw, BeerSmith3 (still) doesn't support any "loss due to hops" functionality, and having found it matters, I set up three equipment profiles that are identical save for their respective "fermenter loss" settings, which range from .25 gallon through 1 gallon as hop usage increases. My biggest hazies use the "high hops" profile while my saisons and the like use the "low hops" profile, with a bunch of recipes in the middle using the "medium hops" profile. It has helped me put 5 gallons in every keg regardless of which of my recipes I brew...

Cheers!

Note on the gitlab page I posted above, there is an "up-vote" toggle - currently at 18. Perhaps if more people clicked on that?
Stinks I can't upvote it since I do not have a login. Hopefully others upvote it. I don't want to create an account for a single upvote.

I'm guessing it's the only way to keep track of who has already contributed an up or down vote (you can only vote once). Only takes about a minute to register :)
