Spotted on the Boston Craigslist, the description includes the phrase "They were used to mix barley and hops at an old brewery"
Anybody recognize these things? Some kind of barley mills?

Is there a hole through the bottom of it?

Is that like some sort of flow restrictor? It looks like a stopper in the bottom that is adjusted with the gauge on the side. The spring holds the lever up but can be pushed down, either increasing or decreasing the flow out the bottom. That whole thing would be bolted on top of some other piece of machinery or tank etc.

You wouldn't mix barley and hops together in brewing.

What does the lettering on the bottom part read? That might give a clue.

It doesn't look like anything that would be used in brewing to me.
