Hey Guys,

I've been wanting to tackle making a large fermentation chamber for a while now and since I've got 4 weeks of holidays coming up in June I think its about time to start.

For starters I have a clone of Kals system from www.theelectricbrewery.com except I've got 30 gal pots instead of the 20gal ones. I usually brew 10 and 15 gal batches. My plan for this chamber is to eventual get a rolling conical like this one http://conical-fermenter.com/20-Gallon-Conical-Fermenter-with-Thermowell-Thermometer-and-Wheels.html

The size of the chamber will be something like 6' long, 4' high and 3' deep. Roughly. I thinking about doing 2-3 seperate chambers within it. Now I've seen how lots of guys do it with old fridges or use glycol in an adjacient freezer and run it through a radiator. All look like good ideas. My question is would a danby air conditioner like this one https://www.danby.com/en/CA/page.php?c=4&id=14&p=1524 get the temp of that chamber down to lagering temp (1-2C). Has anybody attempted doing this and what were the results.

Thanks folks

Matt

12,000 BTU's sounds like it should be pretty solid to me. But what do I know?

I'm going to try using a salvaged water cooler, but for a much smaller chamber.

The biggest issue with using a portable unit is the exhaust. If you don't exhaust to the area outside of your fermentation chamber, it will burn out the unit from overworking the coil.
