According to the news the last few days, there is a venture capitalist who lives about 2 blocks from Anchor. According to the news, he is like a staple there and has been very vocal about trying to get a group together to buy the business. He wants to keep it where it is and is enlisting people to buy small parts and keep the brewery open. Kinda cool.

Cracked open a can of Anchor Steam tonight, not sure how fresh it was, or maybe I'm not that keen on Northern Brewer hops. I brewed a clone a while back and wasn't blown away either. Just seems to me that an off the shelf Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, or pale ales that I can brew trump this beer. The romantic aspects on this beer are not enough for me to support it financially.
I agree. While I will drink it if it is offered, I don't think it is one I would go out and buy. My son had a six pack of it in the fridge and he and I had one each. It wasn't bad, but not the type of beer I would normally drink.
The main package store I go to sold their last two 6ers of Anchor the day before my last visit. Damn, so close.
I know the owner really well, so hoping he can get more of it next go around. I'm doubtful, but he told me he's going to hold a six pack for me if it happens. He still has some Spencer left too (another brewery that closed). I may pick up some of that too on my next visit.

Good on them … being a veteran star-up entrepreneur I’ve been in these situations … while it didn’t work out for me in specific companies, their moxie can not go unnoticed. Good for them going for the long shot!
This months BYO has a big write up on Anchor Our Special Ale! Recipe included - “Thankfully, recent Anchor Brewmaster Scott Ungerman who…was at the helm for much of the past decade, was willing to share his insights on Our Special Ale.” Excellent, timely, and informative article.
That is one article I will be seeking out. Their Christmas Ale is one I looked for every year, I couldn't find it in Michigan last year. Since they changed the tree art every year I started to keep them in my collection.
I like a lot of the Christmas Ales out there, but Anchor had a special one. Great Lakes "jail ale" is another one I seek out every year. I've never brewed one for myself, I have a brew week planned in 2 weeks I might have to give this a go.

My homebrew club is doing a christmas/holiday beer exchange this year. I brewed my attempt at this recipe for the exchange at the beginning of September. I even photoshopped OSA labels.
Anyone traveling through the bay area, the Marriott SFO Airport (on Bayshore) still has Anchor on tap. Manager bought a bunch of kegs when they announced the closing and still had a couple left as of two weekends ago.
Best news in my feed all day! Truly inspirational for the start of revitalization movement akin to Ghost Dancing in the 1890's. What's next other pre-prohibiton breweries?

Some of the best news I've heard in a long time! And nice to see the article used only the real Anchor bottle labels, not those awful rebranding monstrosities, hopefully they'll bring those back.
Anchor was inspirational for me as a beginning brewer in the early 80s. I'm glad to hear it's being revived.

The new owner of Anchor gave the Chobani employees a minority stake in the company back in 2016. This has apparently led to a different kind of relationship between management and the workers. Great news for those who worked there too. Hopefully they will all be back at work doing what they enjoy doing. I might even take a ride out to the tap house with my buddy and taste the liberty ale. Can't say I have ever had that one.

I am hopeful their distribution will follow through with Total Wine, as it is unlikely I will make it to SF to sample locally.
Maybe bring something new to the party as well.
One has to expect new ownership will not run Anchor the way it was run into its (albeit temporary, from current appearances) demise. Something has to change for its second life to be successful...

I'm enjoying my clone of Anchor Porter now. I'm hoping they'll brew Old Foghorn at least once.
I have a magnum of 2015 Christmas Ale that is probably past due.
