On a recent brew day, I added yeast nutrient and whirlfloc at the end of boil. I smelled a strong ammonia odor. Kind of freaked me out. Should I be concerned???

A lot of nutrients contain DAP (diammonium phosphate). I've never smelled it when putting it into the beer, but do get it if I smell the vial it comes in. So long as you put in the prescribed amount, it all should be metabolized by the yeast.

Nothing to worry about as wonderbread23 said its just the DAP. It'll be 'used up' (insert biological/chemical reaction here) by the yeast so no bad things after fermentation.

I believe many if not most yeast nutrients contain food grad urea. I'm not sure from what source but this also could account for the urine/ammonia smell. Nothing to worry about as it quickly precipitates.?

Thanks for the explanations. Sounds like nothing to worry about.
