Has anyone brewed an American Wheat using Wyeast 1056? If so how did it come out?

And- I hope to reuse the wheat yeast cake on my next batch. Could this yeast be reused for any type of american ale. I know that 1056 is a rather versitile yeast when it comes to ale type, but would the fact that it was first used to produce a wheat beer affect the outcome of say an amber, pale, stout?

Not if you harvest the yeast, wash it, and make a starter ahead of time. In my experience, that would be fine. I don't think you would want to pitch anything else onto a wheat beer cake, but then again I wouldn't want to pitch anything under any circumstances onto a yeast cake.

I agree with MalFet.

I've used 1272, which is close to 1056, for an american wheat. Beer turned out great, and then I used the stored yeast to make an IPA after making a small starter with it. IPA turned out great too. The fact that it's a wheat beer shouldn't affect your yeast any more than any other style of beer.
