Am I Right?

I just wanted to double check I have been taking my hydrometer, ABV correctly. I brewed an amber, kick asss by the way but what my buddy told me who is my homebrew sensei, is that you take a og of say 1064 and a fg of 1010 then subtract=54 then multiply by .132 to get abv. The only thing was that all my beer comes out around 7.0% e.g 7.128% for this specific beer. Is this close to all of your guys' procedures?

Try this instead. OG = 1.064 - FG = 1.010 = .054 X 105 = 5.67 %

The placebo effect. But that is only an average, your results may vary.

Um, that's not right. That's to get ABW (alcohol by weight) which is not the same thing as ABV (alcohol by volume).

Yooper's right. Sorry. Left out converting from weight to volume by multiplying by 1.25. My bad.

Subtract your OG from your SG and Multiply it by 131 and it will give you your Alcohol by volume

so your formula would be 1.064 - 1.010 = 0.054 x 131 = 7.074 ABV

Drink a couple. If you get a nice buzz the ABV is high. If you don't feel it, the ABV is low. If you get totally blitzed on two bottles, the ABV is very high.
