ok so i just started fermenting last night (around midnight) and today i get home from work around 7 and check up on my brew and i notice that airlock bubbles have become shifted. they used to be even halfway through the second bubble but now theres like 3 bubbles full on one side and one full on the other. idk if this is normal or not

also i can definitely smell something when i get within about a foot of the fermenter, it smells kind of like a malty sour milk i guess (idk im bad w/ smells. it's supposed to be a "nut brown ale" should i be worried about this smell?)
and i haven't been able to see any bubbles in the airlock yet so im thinking something might be up with that. any comments are greatly appreciated. thanks

Hehe, I also brewed a Brown Ale yesterday :)

Mine was AHS Newcastle clone and I havent seen any airlock activity yet but I do smell it. Airlock activity is not always a good sign of fermentation. I am brewing in a 9 gallon primary and will have a lot of room for co2 to fill up before it will start bubbling out.

You will be ok, give the yeasties some time :)

alright well all this is good to hear.

ill just relax for a while then, thanks guys :)

dcr42 - Watching a good game of football is great, if it sucks then pull up a chair and watch the yeast. It's almost like having goldfish, very relaxing while drinking a homebrew. They do weird things, try putting a mood lamp behind the carboy, but stay away from the LSD or mushrooms.
Seriously, don't worry about it and relax.
